It’s mid-July and for zone 8, that means tomatoes and cucumbers! We’ve been having a great year with our lemon cucumbers (Cucumis sativus) and a variety of tomatoes. This year we’re growing San Marzano, Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye, Super Sweet 100, and Sungold tomatoes. We haven’t had many pests, aside from some aphids right after transplant, so the harvest has been consistent, even though our rain hasn’t! We’re also growing Cucamelons, aka Mouse Melons, a cucumber relative. These 1″ tall round fruits taste just like fresh cucumber and are easy and prolific to grow, as well as being fun to harvest! We’re curious about pickling some next year if we get as good of a crop, and they are still one of the favorites for the bees in our yard. How is your garden doing, and what are you harvesting right now?
